So what was the secret all those other skinny girls out there knew that I didn’t? It just didn’t seem fair.

I stopped shopping at my favorite clothing stores. I stopped trying on new sexy shoes. What was the point right? If the belly rolls and back fat were still there, there was no way I was going to look HOT in anything I bought anyway. So why waste all my money?

There are more important things out there than looks. But it sure doesn’t feel like it does it. Just look around you. Everything is geared to looking sexy, thin, young, gorgeous, hot, amazing, beautiful, etc. If you don’t fit the mold, you just don’t belong…anywhere. You know what I mean. It feels almost like you are invisible to the entire world. Nobody wants you because you don’t look great. I know it’s not fair. I hate even saying it, but it really seems to be the way the world works these days.

::Looks are EVERYTHING::

If you’ve got great looks, you can get the BEST guy (or girl) around, the best job, the best opportunities, you get invited to all the coolest parties, you fit into the sexiest outfits, and get compliments all day long. And all you have to do is…look good. As long as you are thin, and attractive you got it all. And then some. But if you don’t, it’s a totally different story isn’t it. If you have a few extra pounds to lose or even a ton, you fit into a whole ‘nother category. The category of “Eww, I can’t date her (or him), they’re fat & gross!” or “Did they just quit caring about how they look, or what?” or “They must be totally lazy to be that fat” or “I’d never let myself get that way!” or “No way, they don’t belong in our popular group”.

::But it doesn’t have to be that way.::

So I started looking online for an answer to my weight problem. But they were all the same. Empty promises that didn’t deliver. Was it me? Was I not doing it correctly? I don’t think so. I’m no idiot after all. But about 8 months later a friend told me about a new diet trick that I never heard of. The idea behind it was to not starve, or ever deprive yourself of anything. ever. You’d eat whatever you wanted. So basically you never felt “horrible”. You know. the way diets usually make you feel, because you aren’t eating right. You aren’t eating enough. And worst of all. you had to “forbid” yourself to eat things you love. What am I a 6 year old? I am a grown adult. I don’t want to “forbid” myself to do anything!

But this diet trick did the opposite. It understands we humans love and need our delicious food. It used that to it’s advantage. And people, believe you me, when I say it worked. It worked when all the other diets I’ve ever tried didn’t. I finally figured out how to get the fat off once and for all. I was shocked it was as easy as it was. I didn’t even give up my best “buddies” Ben & Jerry’s, oreos, & gourmet cappuccinos. It was like a light switch finally went off and I just KNEW I was gonna finally be skinny and stay skinny for good. This was the magic formula I needed. I got to eat what I wanted when I wanted to eat it. The weight just came off like I wouldn’t believe if I didn’t see it with my own eyes. It was so easy too. Thank goodness, right. You can do it too. You don’t ever have to be afraid of failing at your diet ever again. Just believe you can do it, and you will make it. Never ever give up until you get to your goal! Its oh-so-worth-it! The proper calories you need to eat are based on your weight, age, height, and activity levels. That makes sense right? Good. Let’s move on. So to know exactly “how much to eat to lose weight“, here you go. According to the US Department of Health, there are certain calories that “most” people should eat. It’s generally based on age, and if you do 30 min or less, or moderate exercise each day. Here they are below:

    • Not so much of a mover? It’s O.K. If you are a sedentary child from 2 to 8 years, you can eat from 1000 to 1400 calories a day to maintain your weight. If you are 9-13 you can eat from 1600 to 1800 calories. If you are 14-18, 1800 to 2200 a day, and if you are 19-30, usually 2000 to 2400 calories a day. Remember, these are all general guidelines for and your body may require different numbers of calories.
    • More of a mover? Great. If you are an active child from 2-8 years, you need from 1000 to 1800 calories a day, from 9-13 needs 1600 to 2600 a day, 14-18 needs from 2000 to 3200 a day, and 19-30 needs 2000 to 3000 a day. Don’t bother eating less if you would rather EXERCISE the fat off. You can also add workouts or move your body more to lose an extra 3500 calories every week. Just go for a walk, use the treadmill, P90X, use a bmi calculator, or jog down the street. Before you know it, here I come sexy white bikini that’s half price at Nordstroms. OK, let’s get back to business. Where was I. Remember, your doctor knows you best, so ask them what they recommend for you. The very best way to stay thin and become thin is to be active. Makes sense doesn’t it?! Of course it does. Think P90X! You need TONS more calories in your body if you are going to the gym for 3 or 4 hours a day (Yikes). But if you simply like to lay back on the sofa munching away like a crazy person on bag after bag of Dorito’s, you won’t need that many. DUH! Yup, I wish it were the other way too.

::So, Which One are YOU?::

 

      • So if you are lazy…Ahem, I mean “sedentary” (i.e. don’t exercise or rarely do), BMR TIMES 20 percent
      •  If you are decently Active (i.e. Exercise 1 or 2 times a week): B.M.R. TIMES 30 percent
      • If you are Pretty active (i.e Exercise most days a week…GOOD FOR YOU RAMBO!): BMR x 40 percent

 

::It’s Adding Time!::

Then take that number and ADD it to your B.M.R. This final number will tell you how many calories you can eat every day and keep your weight the same. Well, it’s not yuck for everyone, even p90x. But a lot of people really don’t enjoy running on the treadmill for 4 hours every day, breaking a nasty sweat, ruining their makeup, pulling a muscle, stinking up the joint with their B.O., and then doing it again the next day. Call me crazy. But it can be a pain sometimes. Everyone knows just how great exercising is for you. I know it. You know it. The guy next door knows it. Heck, even your little hamster running in his little cage treadmill knows it. We all KNOW it’s the very best thing possible to get a terrific body, lose weight, feel great, and say healthy long term. There is really only one problem isn’t there. You hate it.

::I Feel Your Pain::

Exercise really can be a pain in the butt (or legs, arms, and back for that matter) depending on the workout. Ha. Get it. But I didn’t hear you laughing. Hmmm. That’s O.K. I understand. Where were we. So we know it’s great for us, but we still loathe putting on our little running outfit, or gym shorts, and heading off to the gym. So what is the next best thing we can do then to keep in great shape? Well, there are a couple things you can try. Keep your bad foods down to a minimum and eat more of the good stuff. You know what I mean already. Step away from the Oreos, miss, or you may get hurt. That was my bad cop impression. Impressed? No, I didn’t think so.

 

::#1: Hey You, Back Away From The Oreos + Ding Dongs!::

So just stay away from the high cholesterol foods, high fat foods, high sugar, and salt foods. Basically, anything that tastes good. Just kidding. Sort of. There are plenty of yummy foods out there that won’t send you to the emergency room with clogged arteries, or coronary heart disease. You can try more healthy foods like hummus, or cut up cucumbers, then dip them in a salad dressing that’s low in fat. Even better, make your own salad dressing, and toss it on all your favorite veggies. Then add some spices and herbs to it with lemon juice to give it a great kick. Just think of using spices, peppers, garlic, lemon and lime juices on anything and everything to add flavor. That’s what I do. Even healthy canned soups can get a nice dose of spices and peppers to make it super yummy.

::#2: That Includes Ben + Jerry Too!::

Instead of chocolate, go for fruit. Fruits are a great sweet treat. Mix up a variety of colorful fruits. You can even sprinkle some splenda on top to add sweetness. Another great trick is to blend up your fruit altogether with some ice, add splenda or raw honey, and a little nonfat milk. The McDonald’s milkshakes will have nothing on them. They are so delicious, you will want one every day. Basically just think out of the box. If there is something you enjoy eating that is healthy, try to make as many recipes out of it as you can. Before you know it you will have an amazing health arsenal at your fingertips. The best part is you will be losing weight left, right and center eating healthy foods…all without exercise. It’s a true win-win situation. I must say that you should still find a way to get some exercising in somehow. Even if you just take a stroll around your block every night, or do some leg lifts on your bedroom floor while watching Lost T.V. show reruns, it’s still going to help you out.

::H20, H20, Everywhere…but not a drop to drink!::

If you are trying to lose weight and get healthy, you need to drink water. Why? Because water is what will go inside your cells and clean out all the junk and debris. It will also assist your fat cells out of your body. You also need water for energy. Try it. You are dead tired. Then grab some water, and drink it down. You will feel more energetic. Knowing what to do can be tough. Being properly hydrated is critical to your entire body’s health, not just for weight loss. But it helps with that a great deal.

::O.K. so you’re sold on H20, eh? Great!::

But what water is the best to drink. You need to find a great quality filtered or spring water. I prefer spring water. I drink Evian personally, and find it to go down very smoothly, and tastes the best out of all the bottled waters. I used to use a filter on my sink, but find it always tasted good, but didn’t make me feel as great as Evian does. I know it can get expensive too. You must make the best decision for you body. Try to get glass bottled water if you do get bottled water. Plastic has a lot of chemicals in it that sink into the water and enter your body when you drink it. YUCK!

::Buy Them By The Case!::

You can get cases of water cheaper at places like Whole Foods, and even Safeway in some cases. Just ask them. Usually you can get it 10% off that way. If you do get a filter, try not to use distilled water filters, since it makes the water into a different thing. Water should not be changing its particles like that. I never liked the way distilled tasted metallic, and made me feel bad.Some people even say it leaches minerals from your system. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to wait 20 years to find out I made a boo-boo! Know what I mean. So I sick with the safe ones, like spring water.

      • Out of water filters, I think the best out there currently is Multi Pure. I used them for years before deciding to do even better with bottled glass Evian.
      • You should also try to drink at least 8 glasses a day, but do even better for your body by getting the most of your water from organic veggies and fruits. This is high quality water in its most basic form – from food sources.

::Dieting Do’s & Don’ts!::

O.K. You want to know the right and wrong ways to go about dieting, do ya? Glad you asked. There are some tried and true things you should be aware of when you want to s-q-u-e-e-z-e your way back into your favorite 10 year old pair of blue jeans. Yes, we all have them. The ones we can’t stand to part with. The ones that are part of the family. O.k. so where was I. I call my pair of favorite jeans “bluey”. I miss bluey when i can’t wear him after gaining too much weight. But that’s what this article is all about. : (

::Here are some Do’s when it comes to dieting::

Be sure to stick to a diet plan. Don’t just grab whatever is in front of you, or you won’t be losing any weight, any time soon. Trust me on this one. So if your fridge just happens to be full of cupcakes, that does not mean you can have cupcakes all day long. Nope. Use our bmi calculator too! You need to write out about how many calories to eat each day (generally 1400 calories a day for women, and from 1600 to 2000 a day for men). Then get on paper the foods you will eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The more detailed you are the better. It will make thinking about it easier later...no thought, just do it. So you have your perfect diet planned.

You are doing the hardest part, and very well I might add. So you know you need to eat plenty of lean meats like turkey, chicken, fish, and eat a ton of organic fresh veggies. The more of a mix on veggies the better by the way, since you will get a range of vitamins. Try P90X exercises too for even faster results! You also know you need to flush out your system and hydrate yourself with a lot of great quality spring or filtered water. Awesome for you to know that! You are a smart cookie, aren’t you? You know to stay away from white starchy items like bread, cake, pasta, potatoes and sugar too. Also try to limit your salt intake. It will help you get thinner faster if you aren’t loaded up with salt which tends to bloat us. Get in plenty of exercise each day (at least 30 minutes a day is best). This will clear up your skin, and make your metabolism higher too.

 

 

::Dieting Don’ts!::

Some dieting don’ts would be to not sleep too little (get plenty of sleep if you want to shed the pounds). Getting plenty of good quality sleep helps your body to lose weight much faster, even when you sleep. It needs this time to rejuvenate and detox. You don’t want to have a high stress load either. Stress puts on weight. It’s because if you eat when you are stressed, and the chemical reaction in your body when you are stressed keeps you from losing weight. O.k. so that should be enough to get you started. Never give up. You will make it to your goal in no time.
